The three-day pattern

It shows up in our orders with almost boring regularity. Someone remembers the date on a Tuesday for a Friday. They open a shopping app, scroll for fifteen minutes, and close it again. Everything good arrives next week. Everything that arrives tomorrow is the same thing they gave last year.

So the plan shrinks. Dinner somewhere nice. Flowers on the way home. A gift bag from the mall picked up on the way to dinner. None of it is wrong. All of it is fine. And that is the problem, because your partner can tell the difference between fine and thought about.

The uncomfortable part is that you did think about it. You have been carrying the idea around for weeks. What ran out was not the caring. What ran out was the time to have something made and brought to you.
